calle alisio no 3 marina de bolnuevo 30877 mazarron murcia espana home our house the area local information prices directions maps our house in spain our house is a three bedroom two bathroom semi detached house situated in a small residential complex in bolnuevo, near puerto de mazarron. it is two minutes walk to a long sandy beach and has the benefit of a large swimming pool right outside the back garden. there are two bedrooms upstairs, one with a double bed and one with two 3ft single beds which can be pushed together to make one large king sized bed, and one double bedroom downstairs. the spacious bathroom upstairs has a bath/shower, washbasin, toilet and bidet and a shower room downstairs has a shower, washbasin and toilet. there is a large lounge with satellite tv, dvd player and small hi fi and combined dining area. the fully equipped kitchen, includes microwave, electric oven and ceramic hob, large fridge-freezer, washing machine, ironing board and steam iron. the house has its own secluded garden, backing on to the large swimming pool. and finally, there is a large solarium on the roof for soaking up that spanish sunshine, (but don’t forget the sun tan lotion - it can get very hot up there!!). the two bedroom windows and lounge window have mosquito nets so they can be left open all night for cool ventilation and there is a large ceiling fan at the top of the stairs. there is also a cooling unit on the landing which allows you to put ice into the base which then blows cold air, not quite the same as air conditioning but very effective. this shows the front of our house in bolnuevo, with the mountains in the background. and this shows the back of our house with the large pool just literally 15feet from the garden gate a day time and night time view from the back bedroom balcony. for the energetic, there is a lovely walk right to the top of the mountain. another view showing the grassed area outside our garden gate and just a few steps from the lovely swimming pool. and just a few more pictures our back garden which overlooks the mountains our front garden front bedroom another view of our front garden lounge & dining area fully fitted kitchen back to the top of the page bolnuevo and the mazarron area the "cornwall of spain" the beach at bolnuevo a lovely long beach but not really suitable for non swimmers fisherman's cove bolnuevo excellent snorkeling and really safe bathing for children bolnuevo is a small spanish village located on the south eastern corner of spain, to the west of the historic city of cartagena . it has a few shops, bars, restaurants etc., for your every day needs. it is an area of beautiful coastline with endless coves and approximately 35km of sandy beaches. approximately 2 miles away is puerto de mazarron which is a typical spanish fishing port. mazarron boasts a number of gentle sloping sandy beaches, making for very safe bathing. the climate of the costa calida is one of the warmest in europe and averages 300 days of sun per year. the shopping facilities in the port are good and the water may be drunk from the taps, though of course you may prefer to go to the local bodega and purchase gin, brandy and bacardi at a fraction of the price you would pay at home. there is a daily market for fresh fruit, meat and vegetable alongside the fish market. puerto de mazarron is approximately 2 miles away from bolnuevo and is a very busy spanish resort during the summer months and fairly quiet during the rest of the year. there are several discos and many bars and restaurants together with a good selection of shops including a vegetable and fish market. it is still relatively un spoilt and is not for anybody looking for a sophisticated resort. obviously the demands of tourism have meant some changes, but fortunately these are restricted to providing extra facilities (banks, shops, restaurants, discos etc.) to an area which has not been spoilt by high rise hotels or apartment developments. apart from the obvious swimming and tennis, other amenities include sailing, scuba-diving and there are several golf courses within easy driving distance. heading inland takes you to a region of spain completely un spoilt by tourism and unchanged for centuries. the main beach in puerto de mazarron just two more lovely un spoilt beaches between bolnuevo and puerto de mazarron. excellent snorkeling and really safe bathing for children. no wonder it is called the "cornwall of spain" back to the top of the page local information & things to do and see to print this click here to see a satellite view of our house in bolnuevo from google maps click here promenade on the way to the port go towards the port over the bridge past the open ground on both sides of the road. at the start of the houses on the right, turn right along the path leading towards the beach and promenade. you can cycle along the promenade. at the end of the promenade you can return to the road to cycle to the port. promenade in bolnuevo ideal to walk or cycle along as it gets the sun until late in the evening. fishermans cove - at top end of bolnuevo beach. very safe bathing . cycle or walk. a small beach located down a cliff path. go along the main beach up the hill. halfway round the bend there are places to walk down the rough path to the beach. your car can be parked at the top of the cliff path, (half on the road), if on cycles, lock them up to the tree at the top of the path. bahia beach v ery safe bathing ideal for children. (about 1 mile from the house) take the road to the port and look for the small sign for the bahia bar, (the only beach bar). you can park anywhere around there to get to the lovely beach. restaurants chinese in bolnuevo is very good especially the set menus. chinese wok buffet is on the right hand side main road going into the port, it is self service with an excellent variety and only about 9 euro for as much as you can eat. lobo de mare in bolnuevo serves very large quantities of english food. there are lots of small bars and restaurants to numerous to mention. places to visit the gun batteries of castillito. well worth a visit. they go on for miles, so to get from the first of the fort to the second part, it is worth while driving down the rough road rather than walking. a n abandoned fort, last used in the spanish civil war at the end of a narrow precipitous road. definitely not for wobbly drivers. if this place was anywhere else in europe it would be tarted up, have a visitor centre and be closed at night, instead it seems just abandoned. it is a huge area with some very large guns still pointing out to sea. the cliffs are about 1000 above sea level so the views are superb and on the right night so is the sunset. two 400-millimetre calibre guns remain, which once had a range of 35kms and fired howitzers weighing 0.8 tons. a lot of people were needed to look after these guns so there are large underground areas that can be explored by the brave with torches and plenty of time. the guns were made at barrow-in-furness by vickers. parts of the film the guns of navarone are alleged to have been filmed here. it is a 1961 film based on a well-known 1957 novel about world war ii by scottish thriller writer alistair maclean. it starred gregory peck, david niven and anthony quinn. the book and the film share the same basic plot: the efforts of an allied commando team to destroy a seemingly impregnable german fortress that threatens allied naval ships in the aegean sea, and prevents 2,000 isolated british troops from being rescued la santa sanatorium and hotel about 25km drive towards the espuna mountains , just past totana. this is a lovely place to stop off for a coffee or lunch, and reasonably priced. while there, it is worth driving up to the large statue of jesus, literally over the road from the la santa. if you feel like driving a little further, try visiting the espuna mountains , well worth a visit. la azohia a small fishing village (about 6km)
